Julianne

Album Art/Branding

Album art is a powerful visual component that creates a completeness to a body of musical work. Behind every captivating album cover lies a carefully crafted image that conveys the essence of the music within. Delving into the world of album art photography allows one to blend visual storytelling skills with the emotional depth of music. I had the honor of photographing Julianne Petersen for her debut solo album “Beatrice”. This project was so special and personal. Julianne and I had so much fun brainstorming ways that we might be able to visually call back to the words, feelings, and concepts that this album explores.

One motif that we wanted to keep consistent in this project was innocence—and the inevitability of it slipping through one’s fingers, regardless of how tight the grip. This album is all about watching your parents grow older, saying goodbye to a future you expected, and accepting one’s coming of age. We tried to incorporate this into wardrobe choices by having her wear pajamas and using props like bed sheets, pillows, and a mattress to convey a childhood bedroom out of its context. Keeping hair and makeup simple, youthful, and playful felt key to visually exhibiting that same innocence.
